Last year the Maker Faire Rome was already very big with 15.000 visitors each day, many of them standing outside for 2 or 3 hours before they could enter the building.

This year the organisation has booked a larger building Parco della Musica Auditorium designed by Renzo Piano, 2002. Three halls capable up to 2800 visitors, beautifull design which attracts 1 miljon visitors each year.

And they made the event even bigger: 600 projects, 74 presentations and 42 workshops from Makers of 33 countries! Indeed THE European edition.

At Thursday there is the opening conference with many interesting speakers.

Friday morning is the educational part with many schools.

Friday afternoon, Saturday and Sunday are open for everybody. When you want to visit it sign up for their newsletter and you will pay 6,-E instead of 10,-E.

FabLab Maastricht will be part of the FabLab area and show the By Flow multimaterial 3Dprinter, foldable and no calibration needed. It will print with biorubber, ceramics, bronze etc to show our research in new printing materials. At this moment we investigate the use of silicones, recycled rubber, glass and cellulose, together with our partners of AMMC at Chemelot campus.
For the kids and chocolate addicts we print Nutella, designed by Doodle3D. At this moment we are developing an affordable 3D printer for chocolate and topping of cakes. Part of the research we start in Venlo.

At Saturday 16.30h Frits Hoff will give a presentation about 3D foodprinting:
Is 3Dfoodprinting a hype or not? What are the benefits for:

  • good restaurants
  • patients and elderly people who can not swallow (the use of smooth food)
  • personal nutrition for people with demanding jobs
  • supermarkets of the future (cartridges of nutrients?)
